The Tengu are either wiped out by Kisu's successor or forced into exile. The centaurs retreat deep into the forests and stop interacting with the other races. The Heket aren't really sentient. The remaining sentient races are accounted for in GW:EN.

The questions don't seem up to date... I think those questions have already been asked in interviews a year ago, besides the new beta info.

What are we gooin to do until next year?!!!!! that sux, I was hoping to atleast get a chance to see some of the game, or even play it in beta. Now we all have to sit around and wait for another year or so... If beta is not going to be released this year, than the actual game probably won't be released until next summer or fall (2009). Sh*tty deal. Atleast they can do is make some videos of what they accomplished now, or videos of character creation, screenshots, anything to keep us looking forward to it without all the wondering.

It has been over 10 months since release of EotN, meanig there will be more than a 2 year gap until guildwars 2.... I am slowly getting bored of GW, and got nothing to do besides trying to max titles, or do alittle farming here and there, and that all gets boring day after day. Hopefully they will suprised us with a new expansion they do have 2 teams that work on different projects. But yeah, that would be awesome to have a suprise release of another expansion this fall. I am just dreaming really, oh well... sit and wait, and wait and wait, is all we can do.

Not at all surprised that the beta won't be this year, given GW1 was delayed quite a bit before it was released IIRC.

Back to waiting for screenshots, and proof beyond their word that the game won't suffer from the leveling grind that stops me from playing every other MMO.

They never said there wouldn't be any new information coming, hopefully they'll show something off at E3. But regardless, I'd prefer they take their time with the gameand get it right.

they definitely need to do something, mystery surrounding a game is a good way to boost interest, but this has gone on too long and fans are getting tired. post some new damn info! Pushing back the release date is promising though, shows that they really are working hard and trying to perfect the game

Yes. You will be able to advance your character to the maximum level without ever joining a group if you so desire. This will give players the option to experience the game whichever way they prefer."

Lame, seems like there will be a lack of a pure healer/support class now. Poor monk class will get shafted. Who needs monks when you can spam healing potions... wait, how bout we can all go ursan and spam healing potions at the same time to solo in GW2? Ok seriously, encouraging team work to play through the game is one of GW's best qualities, now GW2 could be a single player game.

Oh, no healing potions please, gw is the only mmo that i know that doesn't use these because monks are always there, now they may turn this into all those other pathetic games.
perhaps you should think before you post. solo in this case i beleive means Heros / henchmen. not SOLO aka shadowform or 55monk style,

oh... and the original release date was 2009/10. who ever got the idea it would be 2008???

This could be exactly why some chose to fight alongside the 5 races aNet has already announced. Tengu should be playable. It seems rather lame that all the playable races (save Char) are from GW:EN alone.

aNet initially said it wouldn't be released until the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010 in the PC Gamer GW exclusive issue. I don't understand why people kept thinking it would coming out earlier than that.

As for what to do until then, just because they haven't released any screenshots or new information yet doesn't mean they won't within the next year... It'll come.

I've taken an extended break from Gw, and plan on coming back for some more unlocks in HoM

Also comforted that Guru community hasn't changed that much.

Anyone else psyched there adding a City of Hero's / City of Villians sidekick like system so I can play with friend no matter what lvl they are.

This to me shows anet still focus on the anti-grind that other mmo's.

It also seems that Tengu would be part of a Cantha Expansion. Remember GW2 has the same "core" that everyone starts with an add-on content to expanding the game. Where this won't fragment the game like in GW1 with separate independent chapters interlinked.

GW players not having anything new to do for what will be over a year now that GW2's beta isn't coming this year is unacceptable. The developer's idea of "new" for players seems to be a repeated event with virtually no changes what-so-ever other than a new mask.

That just isn't enough to keep the majority hooked. Of course there will be hardcore followers who will wait the long wait, but ArenaNet needs to realize for their game(s) to be successful, they have to keep the players (ie: the source of their income) happy and entertained.
One word: Bioware. How have they been successful? By making successful games. None of them required a monthly fee. Players played the game, enjoyed it, were done with it, purchased the next great game to come from them.

You are bringing the shining example of the MMO mentality here that I've accused of killing Guild Wars. GW is just an online RPG, much in the vein of Diablo, Oblivion, and other games. It does not follow the more modern MMOs in any sense. It's not supposed to hook you, addict you, or provide "new and interesting gameplay" for years on end. Did you have such expectations from Baldur's Gate or Knights of the Old Republic?

If you really enjoy a game from a certain company, you're more inclined to purchase another game from them. Likewise, if it was bad, you're less likely to buy a game from them. That's how ANet is going to be successful - by plugging out new great games.

Think Hellgate: London. As iffy as that game was, the party scaling was pretty sweet.

ANet believed there would be a beta in 2008, which lead some of the community to believe it.

they already said that in GW2 that you either go alone, or you can have a single npc sidkick. you cant have a whole team of npcs

I agree with everything you said but this... While I think you are likely correct, that Tengu would be included in an expansion, there is no official statement that GW2 will have the same "core" (though, your speculation may end up being true).

HOWEVER, I feel that this would fragment the game because, in my opinion, the Tyria/Cantha/Elona chapters are all fragmented apart from one another. Initially, the balance was better prior to having added other professions and further skills. I would think that aNet would have learned by this and realised that the more they add later makes it all more difficult to balance in the long run. In addition to this, the continents of Cantha and Elona have less content than Tyria and, furthermore, their stories are two dimensional droll while Tyria remains the main focus.

GW:EN is a GRAND example of this in that it further expands on Tyria's story in great detail yet Cantha and Elona are left alone in the dust.

What I personally think would be best for the game(s) would be if aNet actually took the time to care for all three continents equally and, instead of rushing out JUST Tyria's story with GW:EN and jumping straight to Tyria's story alone with GW2, they released (at least small) expansions for Cantha and Elona that took players thru their story set-up for GW2.

Then, aNet should take their time working on GW2 so that these continents can be included in the initial release instead of releasing one continent at a time.

Of course, I have no idea what they are doing. So I may like their plan better.

Do they? They only need to start doing something when they have a product they are happy to promote. I would prefer them to wait until then. No good announcing anything now if the release is not, as mentioned previously, going to be until late 2009 or early 2010. There's only so long people will be hold their breath for.

Or does it show that there are problems and they're having to do major re-work? Or that there are not enough staff to hit deadlines, or any other scenario.

They are taking their time because the game is not ready. Simple as that really.

u know, the whole GW2 FAQ was great and all, even tho it just restated everything we, the current fans, basically knew (besides a small bit here and there like the no beta in 08). But it woulda been even better if they would have at least added in a screenshot or 2. I think they playerbase wouldnt even care if it was just an enviroment screenie, as long as it came from GW2, in fact a screenie would REALLY help ease GW fans especially after today.

When i first read the FAQ yesterday i thought well thats all good an dandy and i should not really expect GW2 till 2010 now with the beta being pushed back to next year. Thats no big deal, theres really no major game i feel like playing that will take me away from the GW games (the only other game really being Project Offset which is looking to be the next Duke Nukem Forever).

However, then today came and Blizzard not only announced Diablo 3, but they also provided screenies, gameplay video, and a cinematic! Now yes, i know Anet is not Blizzard but guess what, those screenies/video really help in pushing me towards going back to playing Blizzard games (havent really played one since the release of WoW). And as of this moment i am actually looking more forward to playing Diablo 3 than GW2 which means anet is going to start losing fans/playerbase if they at least dont start providing a lil something more than already stated news. (and no im not quiting just saying that with this new piece of info, i probably wont be buying GW2 now).

And as many ppl like to say, "Screenies or it didnt happen/doesnt exist"...Anet -> "Screenshots or else game doesnt exist."

I don't expect it from those games because they aren't online multiplayer games. It's different when it's online and we've had to pay for new content (equivalent to a monthly fee in my opinion, but that's another thread) and then when the game starts going bad and the economy is in bad shape, fun builds consistently get nerfed and almost everything done by the developers in-game is recycled (including "brand new armors" from an expansion pack we had to pay extra for, again, another thread) for them using an excuse of "we're working on GW2" seems to leave a feeling of abandonment, at least in my eyes. The Dragon Festival is example of this, as are the weekend events. The Single Player games you mentioned were designed for one player to play through, and not to play for a long time, unlike Guild Wars which is in my opinion an MMO. It's a completely different argument when comparing single player vs. multiplayer games.

They say we don't really get much new content because they're "working on GW2" but yet they refuse to even show us a screenshot to this day, almost a year and a half after the game was announced. It makes me wonder when they actually started production. There are many aspects of Guild Wars that can be seen as broken and need to be fixed, but when the community asks for fixes, we're told it's not happening because of GW2. The least they can do to keep their community (again, the source of their money) happy is show us how it's coming along every once and a few years.

I'm not comparing GW as a multiplayer game to a single-player game (in fact I can play GW completely by myself these days), but as an RPG to an RPG. And what is it that makes GW an MMO? That it's online only? I've found GW to have more in common with Diablo than any MMO I've ever played.

The new content you "had to pay for" is nothing but stand-alone expansion packs. We only payed a single fee for GW, we don't deserve anything more. I don't hear people complaining when they had to pay for the expansion pack for StarCraft.
